For years Google has been allowing business to create a simple website using Google Business Profiles with domains that end with business.site and negocio.site. Those Google Business Profile websites were driven by the data in customer’s Business Profile (formerly known as “Google My Business”), and many SMB owners found it to be a quick and efficient way to create online presence and share basic information with their customers.
Unfortunatelly, Google just announced that starting in March 2024, these websites will be deactivated.
Once the deactivation kicks in, visitors trying to access those website will be redirected to the organization’s Business Profile page automatically. This redirection will remain in effect until June 10, 2024, when, if alternate website is not established and domain redirected, customers will get a “page not found” error when attempting to visit the website.
This is significant for businesses aiming to keep their online presence, however basic, operational. To do so, the SMB owners will neeed to create a new website using different tools and promptly update their Business Profile with the new site address before the deadline to ensures a seamless transition for their online presence.
